LAHORE: Heading a two member bench, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar summoned Railways Minister to the court over allegations that corruption worth Rs 60 billion occurred in Pakistan Railways.
The CJP was hearing the case at the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry when he inquired where the railways minister was.
He was told that the minister had not been summoned to the hearing, to which the CJP replied that proceedings would continue once Saad Rafique was present in the court.
The CJP had taken suo moto notice of corruption in the Railways on the 7th of April, and the Supreme Court had subsequently ordered a complete audit of the Railways on the 14th of April.
The CJP also criticised Saad Rafique over his statements defending his department, and warned him that his uncooperative attitude could land him in trouble with the court.
