LAHORE: In what is being seen as an effort to bridge differences between estranged PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar and the party quaid Nawaz Sharif, the former called upon Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif at his Lahore residence on Monday.
The two leaders discussed party matters and the current political situation of the country.
During the 45-minute-long meeting, Nisar shared his reservations regarding the party leadership with Shehbaz. The latter urged him to stay in the party and raise the reservations on internal forums. “You should stay with the party,” Shehbaz said to Nisar, according to media reports.
Differences between Nisar and former PM Nawaz Sharif had emerged in the aftermath of the Panama Papers judgement in which the latter was disqualified to hold the PM’s Office. Nisar was apparently in support of a less confrontational approach, however, Sharif sided with the view, held by several central PML-N leaders, that the party should mobilise its support base in the province against the SC judgement. Matters gradually came to the point where Nisar came out in public against emerging PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz.
